Aligners and Retainers – What’s the Difference?

Aligners. Retainers. They sound similar and they look the same, but they serve a different purpose. We have broken down the differences in these two products to help make sure your brand-new smile stays exactly how it is supposed to!

EZ SMILE Clear Aligners are sets of tight-fitting, custom-made, BPA-free clear plastic trays that are moulded to the shape of your teeth. They are used to add small amounts of pressure to your teeth to move them into their final position.

EZ SMILE Clear Retainers are slightly thicker plastic trays that are designed to retain the final shape and position of your teeth. It is important that the retainers are worn full time for the first three weeks after you finish your treatment and gradually weening back to only wearing them nightly for the next 12 months. Then they need to be worn for a few nights a week – forever. Retention is key to help care and protect your beautiful new smile from moving! It is recommended to replace your retainers every 6-12 months. Old and worn retainers may not be effective at retaining your teeth.

EZ SMILE is here to support you on your journey and are always here to help with any questions you may have. You can order a replacement set of retainers for just $149 directly from your EZSMILE dashboard or. Call 1300 936 400 or email [email protected]
