Opinions are a lot like smiles. Everyone has one, but no two are ever quite the same. Given the amount of social media chatter about smile alignment right now, we thought it was time to share our views.

Not unlike the rise of the Internet in the late 1990s, or the more recent arrival of innovative businesses like Uber, Airbnb and Tesla, conventional approaches to smile alignment have been turned upside down in recent years. Led by exciting advances in digital technology and the amazing possibilities of 3D printing, the dream of having a wonderful smile is today more realistic –physically and financially – for more Australians than ever before.
At EZ SMILE we’re proud to be at the forefront of this groundbreaking change. But we also acknowledge not everyone is happy about it.
It only takes a quick Google or social media search to see there are some people with very different views to ours, with the loudest voices generally coming from within traditional corners of the Dental industry. While in some ways we can sympathise with their frustrations (after all, the ground on which they’ve built their businesses is shifting very quickly), we’re far more frustrated ourselves – that despite lots of evidence to the contrary, they’re reluctant to see the bigger and brighter picture for Australians who simply want the best smile they can possibly have.
Life changes. Technology changes. And now smiles can change too, in greater numbers and at a lower cost than ever before. Our smile alignment and treatment programs are based on global best practices, and overseen by fully-trained professionals in our EZ SMILE lab.
With so many benefits for Australians – both in terms of convenience and cost – this new approach to smile alignment really was inevitable. Now EZ SMILE is here it’s ruffling some feathers. Not because it’s wrong. But simply because it’s different to the status quo. Using similar logic we’d still be commuting by horse and carriage so we don’t send blacksmiths out of business. We’d still be using old-fashioned ‘dial’ telephones because they worked well enough. And anyone with crooked teeth would still have no choice but to wear cumbersome ‘train track’ braces. It just doesn’t make sense when a better way so clearly exists.
Of course, every smile is different. We cannot stress strongly enough that there will always be a role for those who provide face-to-face, intensive dental treatments in complex teeth alignment cases. This is precisely why the up-front screening process for EZ SMILE is so comprehensive and, on many occasions already, we’ve directed potential customers to see a traditional orthodontist as doing so will give them the best possible chance of success.
